Ecommerce and online retail

Verify at the checkout, without losing the sale.

Age-restricted goods need a real check, not a birth-year box that any child can clear. ShareRing verifies the customer in their browser, hands your store a pass or a fail, and fills the delivery fields from details the customer has already proved once. Typically under a minute, and no identity document is ever stored on your platform.

Verify once. Reuse at every checkout.

The cost of the age gate

A tick box stops nobody, and a passport upload stops the sale.

A birth-year box is not a check

The most common age gate online asks the customer to confirm their own age. It satisfies no regulator and stops no minor, and it is still the control most stores rely on.

Document uploads cost you the basket

Asking for a passport scan in the middle of a checkout is where age-restricted carts are abandoned. The check thorough enough to satisfy a regulator is usually the one that loses the customer.

Every ID you store is a liability

A store that keeps customer documents to prove it checked has built a breach waiting to happen. The only document that cannot leak is the one you never held.

The rules are already here

The UK Online Safety Act extended age verification duties to platforms serving adult content, and Australian frameworks now cover online alcohol delivery. Age assurance is an operating requirement, not a roadmap item.

It installs into the store, not into your roadmap.

The verification runs in the customer’s browser and hands back a result your platform can act on. There is no app for the customer to download and no identity data for you to hold, which is what keeps the integration small at your end.

What that means in practice

  • Cross-device by default: a QR code on desktop or a link on mobile moves the check to the customer’s phone and back again, so a laptop with no camera is not a dead end.
  • The checkout fills itself: verified name, address and date of birth populate the form, so the check replaces typing rather than adding to it.
  • Pass or fail, nothing more: an age check returns whether the threshold is met. Your store never receives the document behind the answer.
  • Platform plugins: the verification itself is live today through the seamless SDK, which drops into a checkout you already control. Dedicated plugins for the major ecommerce platforms, Shopify and WordPress among them, are coming soon.
Build it yourself

Gate the checkout, not the customer.

Age is the cheapest thing to prove and it is all most orders need, so it runs first and on its own. A full identity check is held back for the orders whose goods or value actually demand one, which keeps the common case fast and the expensive case rare.

  1. age_verification Over 18, answered as a yes or a no. The date of birth never leaves the customer’s vault.
  2. if_else Age alone satisfies this order.
  3. identity_document Only where the goods or the order value demand it: passport, licence or national ID, from 180+ countries.
  4. personal_info Name and delivery address, released by the customer to fill the checkout form.
  5. delivery_http A signed pass or fail to your store platform.
  6. end_ok Checkout completes with the fields already filled, and no document on your servers.

Only the checks that run are billable, and a customer who has verified once arrives already proved. The second order costs less than the first.

Verified checkout, without the drop-off.
