The Challenge

Web3 promised to return control of digital identity to individuals, yet most dApps still struggle with a fundamental tension: how to verify real-world identity for compliance and fraud prevention without creating the centralised honeypots that blockchain was designed to avoid. Regulatory pressure is increasing across DeFi, NFT marketplaces, gaming platforms, and token-gated communities.

Traditional KYC systems cannot simply be bolted onto Web3 architecture. Centralised databases of user documents breach the privacy expectations of crypto-native users, create catastrophic single points of failure, and are fundamentally incompatible with the non-custodial, pseudonymous ethos of decentralised ecosystems.

The Solution: ShareRing’s Web3 Identity Layer

ShareRing provides a fully decentralised identity layer that integrates directly with blockchain ecosystems, enabling dApps to request verified identity attributes without ever receiving or storing the underlying personal data. The architecture is built on three pillars: zero-knowledge proofs for privacy-preserving verification, reusable self-sovereign identity so users verify once and carry that credential everywhere, and cross-chain interoperability.

In June 2025, ShareRing completed its integration with Cronos Chain, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain backed by Crypto.com with access to over 80 million users. The integration delivers a plug-and-play identity layer that any dApp building on Cronos can adopt, enabling compliant onboarding without custom identity infrastructure.

“ShareRing makes it simple to implement trust and compliance without compromising user privacy. All verifications run on Zero-Knowledge technology, meaning sensitive user data is never exposed or stored.”

How It Works

1
🪪
User verifies once via ShareRing Me and stores credentials in their vault
2
🔗
dApp requests a proof via ShareRing Link when wallet connects
3
🔏
Zero-knowledge proof generated; dApp receives pass/fail attestation only
4
On-chain attestation written; subsequent dApps can query without re-verification

Supported Use Cases

Regulated DeFi & DEXs

Lending protocols and decentralised exchanges can satisfy KYC/AML requirements without running their own identity infrastructure. Wallet-level verification keeps pseudonymous users compliant.

🎮

GameFi & NFT Platforms

Token-gated communities and NFT projects can enforce age restrictions, geographic eligibility, or human-only participation rules without exposing user data.

🏦

DAO Governance & Token Sales

Projects can restrict participation to verified individuals in eligible jurisdictions, satisfying securities law requirements while respecting user privacy.

🔒

Sybil Resistance

One verified identity, one wallet. Enforce one-person-one-vote or one-person-one-airdrop rules without invasive data collection.

Outcome & Significance

The Cronos integration establishes ShareRing’s first proven cross-chain identity deployment on a major EVM ecosystem. The deployment creates a replicable framework: a tested, auditable identity layer that any compliant dApp can adopt without building identity infrastructure from scratch.

For the broader Web3 ecosystem, it demonstrates that compliant and private are not opposites. Real-world KYC, age verification, and AML screening can be embedded into decentralised applications in a way that respects user autonomy, satisfies regulators, and removes the liability of centralised data storage. The reusable credential model addresses one of the most significant UX barriers to mainstream DeFi adoption.
